Jeremiah Layman

From "The History of Shelby Co., Ohio," 1883, by Sutton:
Submitted by: Jill Adami

"Jeremiah Layman was born in Pennsylvania in 1799 and moved to Hamilton Co.,  Ohio in the early part of the new century.  In 1822, he married Mary Cummings, daughter of Robert and Amy Cummings, and moved to Shelby County in 1839 -- Orange Township.  They had seven children with two still living -- Eliza C. wife of John A. Voress and Amy H. wife of D. Brelsford.  Mrs. Layman died June 18, 1869 at age 73 and Mr. Layman died April 8, 1875, age 76 years." (page 170)

(Note from submitter: The birthplace of Pennsylvania given in the bio for Jeremiah is inaccurate as
evidenced by two things (1) Jeremiah's older brother, George, was born in Hamilton Co., OH in 1795; and (2) subsequent census documents have Jeremiah stating he was born in Ohio.  However, it does suggest that this family was probably originally from Pennsylvania prior to their residence in Ohio.)
