Mr. Dickensheets was born near Dayton, Ohio, in Montgomery County, September 30, 1819, and came to Shelby County in 1836 with his parents, Henry and Mary Dickensheets, who settled in Green Township, where they passed the remainder of their days. Mrs. Dickinsheets died in February, 1861. Mr. Dickinsheets died in September, 1869. They reared a family of five children, viz., John, Margaret, Rachel, Thomas, and Nancy. All are yet living except Thomas, who was killed in the late war. John Dickensheets, the subject of this sketch, married Mss Martha Bird, Green Township. By this union he had five children, two of whom are yet living, one son and one daugher. His companion died. He then married Mrs. Sarah A. Williams, nee Lewis, May 4, 1854, by whom he had ten children, seven of whom are now living.
