    He Graduated from Sidney High School in 1933
    and attented Antioch College and Bowling Green State Universty.after serving in the Army during World War II.
    he returned to Sidney with his new Bride Helen (Vlahos) Johnson in 1945. Michael And Helen Have been Married 65yrs.
    Michael is best known as the owner and operator of Johnson's Restaurant Which he open on Michigan Street in Sidney in 1955.He Substantially expanded to the restaurant/cafeteria in 1960,and Added Holiday Bowling Lanes next door.he sold the two businesses in 1971.After living in Michigan an California for 15yrs,Michael and Helen were happy to return to Sidney in 1994,where they lived ever since.During his years in Sidney,Michael has served as commander of the American Legion,Worthy Patron of the Eastern Stars and as a member of the Shriners,Elks, Kiwanis Club,High Twelve and the Masons,who recently honored him with him 70yr pin. In addition to his wife Michael is survived by a sister Jeannette (Johnson) Koukios
    of Lansing Michigan:a beloved cousin, Mary Rubekas Leakas.
    A Son Evans and his wife Ellen of San Diego Calif. a Daughter Leah And Her Husband Bob Wilcox Of Hudson Valley,N.Y. a grand-son and his wife Rob and Jessa Wilcox of New York,N.Y. and a grandson Andrew Wilcox who is serving in the Pease Corps in Paraguay.

    Notes:

    Helen Vlahos Johnson died peacefully in Sharon, CT., on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at the age of 89.

    Born in Kewanee, IL. on April 25, 1922, to Emily and Dave Vlahos.

    Helen graduated from Kewanee High School and Kewanee Business College with a degree in Court Reporting. She married Michael Evans Johnson, of Sidney, on July 4, 1943; and they moved to Sidney in 1945 after Michael was discharged from the Army.

    While in Sidney, Helen served in Eastern Star Pleiades Chapter (Worthy Matron in 1954), on the Board of Sidney Rainbow Girls, Bara Court Ladies Oriental Shrine and the Shelby County Girl Scouts. She was the Grand Organist for the Order of Eastern Star in Ohio in 1971. Helen and Michael were best known as the owners and operators of Johnson's Restaurant and Holiday Bowling Lanes on Michigan Ave. during the 1950's and 60's.

    In the late 70's, the Johnson's moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., where Helen served on the committee of the Grand Rapids Public Museum which organized the 1983 exhibit "Greek American Family; Continuity through Change," one of her proudest achievements. In the late 80's the Johnson's moved to the San Diego, Calif. area where Helen was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, singing in the choir and serving as president of the Senior Citizens Group. In 1994, the Johnson's were happy to move back to Sidney where they reconnected with old friends. After Michael's death in 2008, Helen spent her final years at the Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, CT., near her daughter Leah's home.

    Helen loved music and laughter and was beloved by all. She will be missed.

    Helen is survived by her son, Evans (Ellen) Johnson of San Diego, CA., daughter, Leah (Robert) Wilcox of Ancramdale, NY; grandson, Robert (Jessa) Wilcox, Jr., Helen's precious great-granddaughter Adalia, of Brooklyn, NY.; grandson, Andrew Wilcox of Arcramdale, NY., brother; Ted Vlahos of LaGrange Park, Ill.

    Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, with Father Mark Emroll officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

    Visiting hours will be from 5 - 8 p.m. on Friday, September 16th at the

    funeral home.

    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen's honor to the Sharon Health Care Center, 27 Hospital Hill Road, Sharon, CT. 06069 or to charity of choice.
